More Art of Eyri

"Here we have additional artwork that was done by friends of mine who are also a lot more talented than I. They range from concept art to final stuff that will appear in the book." - DJH

Michael Church Concept Drawings
"I asked my friend Michael Church to do the cover art for the final book, as well as to do some concept art. He is very talented when it comes to character design and I'm very happy with what he's given me so far. You can see more of his stuff on his website, www.drakered.com."

Alexander the Small, Hector, and Julius "This is Michael's spin on my original drawings for these characters. It's nice to see what someone with skills can do with my ideas. Don't get me wrong, I don't look down on my own abilities, I have my own style but I'm always blown away by what some of my friends can churn out."

Vulture Mystic of Zuu "In Eyri, vultures are the mystics for the eagle god, Zuu. They are the foils of the blue herons, who are the mystics of the eagle goddess Zaa. This drawing isn't of a specific vulture mystic from the story however, just something Michael came up with based on my twisted imagination. Neat, huh?"

Steve "Here is Michael's first take on what the young hero, Steve might look like."

Fiach-Ra, The Hawk-King "Next, we have a great rendering of the Hawk-King, complete with his scarred left eye and the magical Spear of Zuu. The look of Fiach-Ra is based on that of Egyptian gods, and there is a reason he is always bare-chested. Not only does he not need armor thanks to his magic, but I heard this great interview with Iggy Pop on NPR and he talked about how he was reading about Egypt in a library one day. He said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that Pharaohs were always bare-chested and he that was why he was always bare-chested on stage. I thought that was a neat idea, thanks Iggy."

Michael Church Cover Art - Piece by Piece
"Here are parts of the cover art that Michael is working on. He's doing each character separately, and then piecing it altogether afterwards. First are the black and white original drawings, then the colored versions and then the final shaded versions (note: I don't have every version for each drawing). He's almost done with everything, and they are lookin' great."

Eira, the Pelican
"Michael did a great job of making this character look very friendly and feminine - something I don't really have the skills for."

Zeroth
, the Hunter "I love the shading and colors in this one. If anyone is wondering, Zeroth's black and gold motif actually comes from my family's coat of arms. Whenever I look at the drawings my friends do for me, I just want to write like five more books. Seriously though, I'd love to do a comic book version of this story."

Alexander the Small & Julius "Everybody's favorite little duck and his loyal albatross navigator."

Swantan Warrior "Here is one of the bad guys! This is one of the Hawk-King's swan warriors."

Five-Toes, the Dragon "What's a fantasy story without at least one dragon?"

Steve
"Steve is holding a swordfish in this picture, you can peep my original sketch to learn more about it."

The Final Cover

Romel Clawson Blue Heron Amulet Concept Art

"In The Magic of Eyri Steve is given an amulet that has the image of a blue heron on it. At first Steve thinks the amulet is just a piece of tacky jewelry, but he soon finds out it is much more than that...Anyway, I asked Romel to do some concept art for me and you can see for yourself how it has progressed over the past few months. The final image, the final color image on the right will appear on the back cover of the book and on the last page of the book, right after The End. You can learn more about Romel here or he can be contacted at clawsonromel@hotmail.com"

Kevin Knipstein's Drawing of DJH and Title Logo Design
"I asked my old buddy Kevin Knipstein to do a drawing of m'self for the back of the book and to design the title logo for the book. He did not disappoint. I even made the drawing of me into my avatar on my Eyri Blog and my Eyri Store."

DJH Drawing (EDIT: I just realized I haven't uploaded the full-size pic. Whoops! I'll fix that soon. In the mean time, you can see it here.)
"Yep, that's me. I'm in the well known Statue of Liberty pose. I'm holding a cup of coffee (nothing else) and the turnip logo on the laptop is a nod to Super Mario Bros. 2"

Title Logo
"This is the title logo Kevin came up with it. I was really happy with it and I think that it compliments Michael's stuff on the cover nicely."
