News Archive

The latest news appears on the home page, this is an archive of previous updates. For additional news, read Daniel's blog on LiveJournal here or follow Daniel on Twitter here.

12.14.07 - added Twitter, StumbleUpon and del.icio.us feeds/links. Hooray for Web 2.0!

12.11.07 - I figured out a way to embed my Livejournal blog into my home page. Neat! Now people can browse my most recent blog posts from this site. Very cool. I may actually try to do something similar with this Updates & News sections. We'll see. I like the idea of having a scrolling frame with all the updates, I could put more things here without filling up my front page.

12.09.07 - I found out a few days ago that the Barnes & Noble in Grosse Pointe, Michigan has around ten copies of The Magic of Eyri for sale in the store and on display on an end cap. This is a very rare thing for a Print on Demand/Self-Published book, so I was very excited to hear this news, as described in my blog post about it.

I'll be around Grosse Pointe next weekend, so I'm going to swing by the store and sign any copies I had left. I called the store today to let them know and they were only too happy to hear I'd be stopping by.

12.04.07 - Here is the follow up article that the Grand Valley State University newspaper did about me, click here to read it.

11.30.07 - I survived National Novel Writing Month! Huzzah. I'm now about halfway through the first draft of the next Magic of Eyri book. Here is a link to the Lanthorn article that mentions Novel Writing Month and I. Check it out (correction: they say that the final word count of The Magic of Eyri was 100,000 words, it was actually around  172,000).

The rumor is that the Lanthorn is doing a feature article about me on Monday.

I just found out that the copy of The Magic of Eyri I donated to Grand Valley State University is a part of the Seidman House Collection (Rare Books & Special Collections). Very neat! The book is listed under Michigan Novels - Non Circulating.

I also donated a signed copy of The Magic of Eyri to a book drive Jim C. Hines is doing for a local domestic dispute shelter here in Michigan. You can read about in his blog post here.

If you read the blurb above, I'll have a book signing on March 22nd at Bestsellers Bookstore in Mason, Michigan. AWESOME.

And it is holiday shopping season - don't you know someone who'd love a copy of The Magic of Eyri to call their own? Sure you do - AND if you buy one on Amazon, they'll even gift wrap it for ya.

11.13.07 - Surviving National Novel Writing Month, so far anyway. Speaking of, I was interviewed for Grand Valley State University's school newspaper yesterday on that very subject. The Lanthorn should be running the story this week I think, if they have it on their website I'll post the link. As always, you can track my NaNoWriMo progress on my blog.

I also found out that Schuler Books in Lansing's Eastwood Towne Center has a  couple more copies of  The Magic of Eyri on their shelves. I'll be heading over there soon to sign 'em.

10.31.07 - Happy Halloween! National Novel Writing Month starts tomorrow and I'll start writing my next Magic of Eyri book. I can't wait. I miss working on a story.

10.26.07 - Added stuff about me doing National Novel Writing Month. Check it out above.

10.18.07 - Added videos to the Video section, updated the Events page and added the picture of my fellow panelists and I above. I also should also mention that I donated a signed copy of The Magic of Eyri for the book drive at ConClave. This year the books are being sent over to troops serving in Iraq.

10.15.07 - I survived my first con appearance ever at ConClave 32, it was awesome.  Thanks to everyone at Sanctuary Press and everyone at ConClave!

9.7.07 - I uploaded the adoption certificates for the Screech Owl and the White-Eyed Assassin Bug. Check them out on the Eyri Cares page.

9.1.07 - Today I did another Eyri Cares adoption at Potter Park Zoo! I adopted a Screech Owl and a White-Eyed Assassin Bug (I thought it sounded neat). Like before, I'll put up the adoption certificates onces I get them.

Last week, I sent out a copy of The Magic of Eyri to Barnes & Noble's Small Press Department and asked them to consider the book for placement in their stores. I also sent out a few query letters to agents. This is the next phase of my plan: get an agent, and then try to get a real publisher to re-publish the book and then  continue writing more in the series. We'll see what happens. I think I have a good shot since fantasy is so popular right now.

I uploaded Michael's first sketch of Uncle Shameless onto my blog recently, click here to go to the entry. I'll get the drawing up on this site soon.

8.20.07 - Switched a few things around. I was asked to be a panelist in writer workshops at two upcoming sci-fi/fantasy conventions: ConClave & Penguicon. That should be a fun time. I'm very thankful to be attending. I also have Michael working on more artwork for the sites/advertising. I'll get his first round of sketches up soon.

8.19.07 - Changed the layout of the buttons at the top of the page and added a few blurbs from a reader's blog entry about the book. You can find a link to the blog entry (and read the the rest of the review) under Reviews-Press-Pics.

On November 11th, I will be part of an event at the Barnes & Noble bookstore in East Lansing, MI. Also, after being contacted and asked to do so by the coordinator, I  entered the Michigan Notable Books Program - I'll find out if I made it after December (I think). Wish me luck!

8.7.07 - Added my first Potter Park Zoo adoption certificate to the Eyri Cares page. Also added a button link to my page on YouTube where you can watch some of my goofy animation stuff. Added a link to the Lansing State Journal article about me under Reviews-Press-Pics.

I reached 50 copies sold, so I will be adopting another animal at the Potter Park Zoo. I also donated a signed copy of The Magic of Eyri to the Wigs 4 Kids silent auction next month in Detroit.

7.10.07 - I made the first four chapters readable for free on lulu.com today. I had considered this from the start and finally did it. All of the fun stuff starts after chapter two, so I think this is a good idea. You don't even get introduced to any of the main players of Eyri until chapter three.

7.9.07 - Copies of the book are on display at the Michigan Welcome Center near Clare, Michigan. Visitors can enter to win a copy at the Welcome Center by filling out a comment card! Read my blog post here to learn more. I also donated a copy to the Grand Ledge Public Library today!
